India Unveil New-Look T20I Squad for Zimbabwe Tour as Fresh Faces Earn Their Chance

India have announced a revamped 15-member squad for the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe, which begins on July 23 in Harare. The selectors have introduced several fresh faces while rewarding players who have impressed in domestic cricket and the IPL.

Shreyas Iyer will lead the side as captain. Tilak Varma has been named vice-captain. The three-match series offers another opportunity for India’s emerging stars to prove themselves on the international stage.

New Selections Highlight India’s Future Plans

The squad includes a healthy mix of youth and experience. It also reflects India’s continued focus on building depth in the T20 format.

Ashok Sharma and Yash Thakur have received their maiden India call-ups after strong performances during the domestic season. Both fast bowlers impressed in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy before earning places in the India A setup.

Ashok Sharma also caught attention during his IPL debut. His raw pace and ability to bowl over 150 km/h made him one of the tournament’s exciting young fast bowlers.

Yash Thakur enjoyed a memorable domestic campaign. He picked up 18 wickets in only seven matches while maintaining an excellent economy rate. His consistency played a major role in earning his first senior national selection.

Rinku Singh and Prabhsimran Singh Return

Rinku Singh returns to India’s T20I squad after missing recent international assignments. The left-handed batter remains one of India’s trusted finishers and will be eager to make an immediate impact.

Prabhsimran Singh has also earned a recall following another productive IPL season. The wicketkeeper-batter continued his impressive run-scoring form with aggressive batting at the top of the order.

Although Ishan Kishan is expected to remain the first-choice wicketkeeper, Prabhsimran provides additional depth and competition within the squad.

Mayank Yadav Receives Another Opportunity

Fast bowler Mayank Yadav returns after spending a long period recovering from injuries. The young pacer has shown tremendous pace whenever fully fit.

His comeback gives India another genuine speed option. Team management will hope he remains injury-free throughout the Zimbabwe series.

Harsh Dubey also retains the selectors’ confidence after recently making his ODI debut. The all-rounder continues to impress with his left-arm spin and valuable lower-order batting.

Experienced Names Miss Out

Several familiar names are absent from the squad. Sanju Samson has been left out following a difficult run with the bat.

Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna have also not been selected.

The omissions suggest the selectors are looking closely at younger players before upcoming ICC tournaments and future bilateral series.

Shivam Dube Joins ODI Squad

India have also confirmed a change to their ODI squad for the England series.

Shivam Dube has replaced Nitish Reddy, who has not recovered fully from a quadriceps injury. Reddy had already been ruled out of the T20I series, and his rehabilitation will continue before returning to competitive cricket.

What to Expect from the Series

The Zimbabwe tour could become an important platform for India’s next generation. Several uncapped and returning players now have the opportunity to strengthen their international credentials.

The series will also help selectors evaluate squad depth ahead of future global events. Fans will closely watch how the newcomers adapt to international cricket and whether the experienced players can guide the team to another successful overseas campaign.
